IMATS (International Makeup Artists Trade Show) comes to sydney 2012 - Local Makeup Artist gets picked to go L.A.
The IMATS Trade show travels the world and comes only to Sydney in Australia once a year. This is a big event in the makeup industry were all professional brands and people are involved. Exhibitors, workshops and competitions are held and run. For this magazine cover mock up i am featuring Hayley Boyle who is a local makeup artist that gets head hunted by Ben Nye makeup to travel to Hollywood in L.A to work on the set of an exciting new movie. I want this portrait to express the feeling of achievement and determination. I also want it to reflex the interest in makeup and the fashion industry.
For this creative editorial portrait I plan on doing a head shot and as a prop i am going to apply a creative makeup, I am also playing with the idea of having a makeup brush in the shot to convey my story more clearly. I am still deciding on who the model is going to be.
For lighting i am planning on using a hollywood lighting set up similar to the pictures below:
I plan on having a key light at the front and to the left. This is raised above the model and shinning light downwards on her face. I will also need another light on the background to create a gradient and provide separation. Depending on the colour of the models hair, if this is dark like the photo above i may not need a hair light although if it is lighter a hair light will be brought in. I will be shooting against a white backdrop although i plan on having my background light at such a distance that it appears grey.
