Hollywood and Rembrant

Workshop 1 Simple Portraits

Rembrandt

Rembrandt lighting is a classic lighting setup used in studio portrait photography. There are two things that makeup up rembrandt lighting, a light on one half of the face and a triangle of light on the shadowed side of the face. Classic rembrandt lighting suggests that the triangle of light on the shadowed side of the face should be no wider than the eye and no longer than the nose.

below are some examples of rembrandt lighting:

Hollywood

Hollywood lighting is a studio technique used in portrait photography. Classic hollywood lighting uses one main light that is lit from in front of the face and slightly above. This technique is flattening on the facial features. The characterises of hollywood lighting is small symmetrical shadow under the nose and sometimes a small shadow under the lip.
